What is clay shooting?
Clay pigeon shooting is the art of shooting at special flying targets, known as clay pigeons or clay targets, with a shotgun

Who can do clay shooting?
Everyone! Clay pigeon shooting is currently enjoyed by 8 to 80 year olds, both male and female. You don't need any experience of shooting at all, our friendly fellow shooters will guide you all the way.

Do I need a gun?
No, someone will always let you have a go to see if you like the sport. It is advisable to have your own gun, or share with a friend if you take up the sport, but remember to buy or own a gun you need a shotgun license.

Do I have to be a member?
No, anyone is welcome to come and shoot at the club.

Do I need special clothing or equipment?
No, all we suggest is that you wear sturdy footwear or wellingtons and bring a light waterproof jacket. We supply safety glasses for visitors and you can buy earlplugs on the day.

Is it expensive?
Not really, we have a 50 bird (clay target) shoot which is £12 for visitors and £7 for members. You will need cartridges which will cost you around £8 for the shoot.

What about safety?
You will be with an experienced member of the club or a committee member. We are strict on safety and we will show you the requirments to comply and feel safe at all times. We provide safety glasses and sell earplugs for your comfort. All stands are preofesionally setup and you shoot from inside a steel safety cage. We will not allow anyone who has been drinking alcohol to shoot. The committe reserve the right to refuse anyone from shooting if it is deemed a ncessary precaution for the safety of the members and visitors of the club.

How do I become a member?
Just ask when signing in at the shoot or complete the application form on this site. Membership is £30 per year and your shoot fees will be £7 per shoot.

Are there refreshments and facilities?
Yes, we have a modern brick built clubhouse with a fully licensed bar (open after the shoot only). We provide free rolls or sandwiches after the shoot and refreshments can be purchased from the bar.

Can I bring my friends to watch?
Yes, but we ask that they stay in the supervised area at all times and that they respect the other shooters and need to be quiet when people are shooting so as not to distract or offend.

What sort of shooting should I expect?
We always ahve a 5 stand shoot totalling 50 birds. The shoot varies every time, and there are sometimes 1 or 2 birds in the air at any given time. The layout is deemed to be "sporting" style.
